Content Policy
Last updated: March 21, 2026
Our Approach
NoShamePantry is a community built around helping families eat well and build food security. We want every member to feel welcome, safe, and respected. This Content Moderation Policy explains what content is allowed, what is not, and how we enforce these standards.
Content That Is Welcome
We encourage content that:
- Shares budget-friendly recipes, meal ideas, and pantry tips
- Reports deals, sales, and coupons that help families save money
- Offers helpful advice on food storage, preservation, and preparedness
- Asks genuine questions and engages in constructive discussion
- Shares personal experiences with building a pantry or dealing with food insecurity
Prohibited Content
The following content is not allowed on NoShamePantry:
- Harassment and abuse -- personal attacks, threats, bullying, or intimidation directed at any individual or group
- Hate speech -- content that promotes violence or hatred based on race, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability, or other protected characteristics
- Shaming -- mocking or belittling anyone for their food choices, budget, or pantry contents. This goes against everything we stand for
- Misinformation -- dangerous food safety claims, medical misinformation, or intentionally misleading preparedness advice
- Spam and self-promotion -- unsolicited advertising, referral link farming, or repetitive promotional content
- Illegal content -- content that promotes illegal activity or violates applicable laws
- Explicit or violent content -- sexually explicit material, graphic violence, or content intended to shock or disturb
- Impersonation -- pretending to be another person, brand, or organization
- Malicious links -- links to malware, phishing sites, or other harmful content
How Moderation Works
We use a two-layer moderation system to keep the community safe:
Automated Review
All user-submitted content goes through an automated scoring system before it appears on the site. This system checks for prohibited content patterns, spam signals, and quality indicators. Content that scores below our threshold is held for human review rather than published immediately.
Human Review
Our moderation team reviews all flagged content, reported content, and a sample of published content. Moderators are trained on this policy and make decisions based on context and intent, not just keyword matching.
Community Reporting
Every piece of user content has a "Report" option. If you see something that violates this policy, please report it. Reports are reviewed by our moderation team, typically within 24 hours.
How to Report Content
You can report content that violates this policy in two ways:
- On-site reporting -- use the "Report" button on any recipe, deal post, or forum comment
- Email -- send details to moderation@noshamepantry.com with a link to the content and a description of the issue
Enforcement Actions
When content is found to violate this policy, we may take one or more of the following actions:
- Content removal -- the specific post, comment, or recipe is removed
- Warning -- the user receives a notification explaining the violation
- Temporary suspension -- the user's ability to post content is suspended for a defined period
- Account termination -- for serious or repeated violations, the account may be permanently terminated
The specific action taken depends on the severity of the violation, whether it is a first or repeat offense, and the apparent intent behind the content.
Appeals Process
If you believe your content was removed or your account was actioned in error, you may appeal the decision:
- Email moderation@noshamepantry.com with the subject line "Content Appeal"
- Include a link to the removed content (if available) and your reasoning for the appeal
- A different member of the moderation team will review the decision within 5 business days
- You will receive a written response with the outcome of the appeal
Response Time Commitments
- Reported content -- reviewed within 24 hours of receiving a report
- Automated holds -- human review within 48 hours
- Appeals -- response within 5 business days
- Urgent safety issues (threats, illegal content) -- reviewed as soon as possible, typically within 4 hours during business hours
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Content Moderation Policy as the community grows and new situations arise. Significant changes will be communicated through the site.
