Overview

NoShamePantry ("we," "us," or "our") operates the NoShamePantry.com website. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding that information. We believe in transparency and minimal data collection -- we only gather what we need to help you build food security for your household.

Information We Collect

Account Information

When you create an account, we collect:

  • Email address -- used for authentication, account recovery, and optional email communications
  • Name (if provided) -- used to personalize your experience

Household Information

To calculate your food and water coverage, we collect:

  • Household size -- the number of people in your household
  • Coverage goal -- your target preparedness tier (72 hours, 2 weeks, 30 days, etc.)
  • Pantry inventory data -- what items you have stocked and their approximate quantities

Optional Location Information

If you opt in, we may collect your general location (city or zip code level) to surface relevant local deals. We never collect precise GPS coordinates and this information is entirely optional.

Usage Data

We use Plausible Analytics, a privacy-focused analytics tool that does not use cookies and does not collect personal information. Plausible collects aggregate data such as page views, referral sources, and browser type. No individual user tracking occurs.

User-Generated Content

If you submit recipes, deal posts, or forum comments, that content and any associated metadata (timestamps, etc.) is stored and displayed publicly.

How We Use Your Information

  • Personalization -- calculating your readiness score, generating shopping lists, and recommending recipes based on your pantry
  • Email communications -- sending account-related emails and, if you opt in, newsletters with stocking tips and deal alerts
  • Analytics -- understanding how the site is used so we can improve it (via Plausible, which is cookieless and privacy-respecting)
  • Error monitoring -- diagnosing and fixing technical issues (via Sentry)
  • Content moderation -- reviewing user-submitted content for quality and safety

Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services to operate NoShamePantry:

  • NextAuth -- authentication and user management. NextAuth processes your email and login credentials. See NextAuth's Privacy Policy.
  • Neon -- database hosting. Your household and inventory data is stored in a Neon PostgreSQL database. See Neon's Privacy Policy.
  • Resend -- transactional and marketing email delivery. See Resend's Privacy Policy.
  • Plausible Analytics -- privacy-focused, cookieless website analytics. No personal data is collected. See Plausible's Privacy Policy.
  • Sentry -- error tracking and performance monitoring. Sentry may receive technical data such as browser type, IP address (anonymized), and error stack traces. See Sentry's Privacy Policy.
  • Affiliate networks -- when you click an affiliate link (e.g., Amazon Associates, Walmart), the retailer may set their own cookies and track your purchase. Those purchases are governed by the retailer's own privacy policy.

Cookies

We use minimal cookies:

  • Authentication session cookie -- set by NextAuth to keep you signed in. This is a functional cookie required for the app to work.

We do not use advertising cookies, tracking pixels, or third-party marketing cookies. Plausible Analytics operates without cookies entirely. For more details, see our Cookie Policy.

Your Rights

You have the right to:

  • Access your personal data -- you can view your account information and inventory data at any time through your dashboard
  • Delete your account and all associated data -- contact us at privacy@noshamepantry.com or use the account deletion option in your settings
  • Export your data -- request a copy of your data in a portable format by contacting us
  • Opt out of marketing emails at any time using the unsubscribe link in any email

Data Retention

We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will remove your personal data within 30 days, except where we are required by law to retain it. Anonymized, aggregated analytics data may be retained indefinitely.

Children's Privacy

NoShamePantry is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it.
